Using the XML - Excel conversion utility

The following procedure is helpful if you are using the XML - Excel Conversion utility for the first time, or need to refresh yourself with it's use.

  1. Select (Convert XML to Excel) backstage tool (or Key In: XML2EXCEL).

The XML - Excel Conversion Utility dialog opens.

  2. Set an Action by selecting the appropriate radio button. The default action is XML to Excel.
  3. Click the Browse button adjacent to the From field or select File > Select Source File menu. The Open (file) dialog appears where you can navigate to, and select a file to be converted.

Upon selecting a desired *.xml file, click Open.

At this point the utility checks to verify that the selected file is a valid file. If the file is not valid, an error message is displayed.

If the file is valid, the file name and file directory path display in the From field.

  4. Next, click the Browse button adjacent to the To field or select File > Select Destination File menu (If you wish have different path for destination). The Save As dialog appears where you can navigate to a directory where the .xlsx file is saved.

Upon navigating to a save directory, click Save.

The To field will display the .xlsx file name and file directory path and enables Convert.

  5. Click Convert. The utility creates a backup (.BAK) file and a message displays giving the file name and directory location. In case of conversion to .xlsx, prompts if you want to open the Excel.
  6. Click Cancel to dismiss the utility.
